youngest officer retired last week on medical disability at age 4. Veterinarians
determined Hoek, the department's drug dog, had become totally deaf, possibly a
congenital condition. That prevented the German shepherd from fully performing
his duties as West Des Moines' first police dog.

that was running loose on 12th Street. Talk about ironic. The students, all
